Project Description
This short indoors photography course is aimed at total beginners who own a camera and want to unleash some of its amazing potential. Over just 4 hours, you will learn how to operate your camera, understand the basics of exposure, and get immediately applicable tips for travel, landscape and portraiture photography that professionals always use.
What do I have to bring?
- Your camera: DSLR or mirrorless or superzoom
- If you don’t have a camera, we offer free DSLR camera to use during the course (please tell us in advance after your registration).
- Positive attitude and passion for visual arts 🙂
This course will cover:
- Camera features – how to use ISO, aperture, shutter speed, shooting modes, flash and focus
- Basic exposure – master exposure no matter your environment – using ISO, shutter speed and aperture
- Creative techniques – using aperture to artistically change depth-of-field (e.g. blurry backgrounds in portraits), shutter speed to blur or freeze motion (e.g. light trails or insects mid-flight), and more
- Composing a scene – from rule-of-thirds to posing photography subjects, learn the essential skills and creative theories to ‘level up’ your photography
- Landscape photography practical tips
- Trip photography practical tips
- Portrait photography basics, posing, lighting
- Lenses and gear – what lenses are right for you? You’ll learn the fundamentals to help you choose and effectively use your gear depending on your goals
- Common mistakes – are your photos poorly exposed? Blurry? Maybe they’re just unexciting? We’ll help you critically examine your photography to keep you improving for years after the course
